Avenue Q
Avenue Q had its World premiere in March 2003, at Vineyard Theatre. The Broadway production opened on July 31, 2003, at the John Golden Theatre. The music and the lyrics of Avenue Q are written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and the musical is directed by Jason Moore. On Broadway, Avenue Q has won a number of Tony Awards, including the Best Musical award in 2004. It is the 26th longest running musical show in the history of Broadway. Avenue Q is largely inspired by Sesame Street, the PBS children’s television program. In fact, characters like Trekkie Monster is based on Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster and the roommates Nicky and Rod are the adult versions of Ernie and Bert.
